Imagine More Student Life Bus Tour Heads to Chicago

pictureBIG RAPIDS – The Imagine More Student Life Bus Tour is embarking on another road trip. This year, Ferris State University faculty, staff and students are headed to Chicago, Ill., where they will visit with students from five Chicago Public School District high schools.

The tour embarks on May 10, continuing through May 14. Sponsored by Ferris’ Office of Multicultural Student Services, the bus tour will visit Kenwood Career Academy May 10, Hyde Park Career Academy and Gage Park High School May 11, Simeon Career Academy May 13, and Dunbar Vocational Career Academy May 14.

Now a yearly tradition, the Imagine More Student Life Bus Tour showcases Ferris’ student leaders and gives them an opportunity to connect with high school students about academic programs, and student life, organizations and services.

“Our goal as we travel to Chicago for the Imagine More Student Life Bus Tour is to inform, impact and hopefully recruit high school students from the Chicago area to Ferris State University,” said Michael Wade, OMSS assistant director. “It’s a challenge getting into the schools, but we’re pleased we were able to get into five schools in the Chicago Public School District.”

Wade added that roughly 25 Ferris students from the T.O.W.E.R.S. Leadership Development program, as well as a number of students from professional, social/service, faith-based and Greek organizations will be participating in this year’s bus tour.

“It is our goal that minority high school students become inspired to attend college, and most importantly, Ferris State University.” Wade said.

In past years, the tour has visited different regions in Michigan, including Benton Harbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon and Saginaw.
