BIG RAPIDS – The 18th Annual Golf Outing, sponsored by the Ferris Professional Women, is more than an opportunity to get out the clubs and swing away at Falcon Head Golf Club (July 30) – it extends a hand to the next generation of professionals.
FPW has a continuing mission that encourages its members to network while creating opportunities, learning, growing and experiencing life. As part of FPW’s mission to open doors, the organization sponsors a scholarship that goes annually to a female student based on several factors, including financial need, leadership and service to the community, status as a full-time student at Ferris and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Award preference is given to applicants from Mecosta County, but women from other counties may apply.
“Our goal for the FPW Golf Outing is to raise enough money to fund our annual $1,000 scholarship and the other community events we help sponsor,” said Deb Ducat, a former FPW secretary who now serves as the organization’s annual golf outing chair.
The FPW Golf Outing, which is open to all levels of golfers, begins at 11:30 a.m. with a putting contest followed by lunch at noon (for an additional fee). Registration for the outing begins at noon and golfers will begin teeing off at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $45 per person and that includes golf, a cart and dinner. In addition to the golf and food, the outing also features prizes and a raffle.
The outing is a major fund-raiser for the organization which also sponsors a number of community activities including an annual book drive, the FPW Woman of the Year event and is affiliated with events like the Take Back the Night Rally and groups like the Girl Scouts.
