Ferris Faculty, Staff, Students Contribute Nearly $65,000 to United Way

pictureBIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University faculty, staff and students went above and beyond in 2008 to help make the Mecosta-Osceola United Way’s annual fund-raising campaign a success by donating nearly $65,000.

Ferris’ contribution helped the United Way in achieving its $440,000 fundraising goal, with the MOUW just surpassing its noted mark at the first of the year as final monetary gifts were processed, said Ferris Director of Alumni Relations Jeremy Mishler, who is a past president of the United Way Board of Directors.

The Ferris campaign was co-chaired by Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs Dan Burcham and Executive Secretary to the Vice President for Student Affairs Linda Telfer who said University employees and students held several fund raisers October through December.

Students contributed $5,620 by coordinating a variety of activities, including selling Homecoming-themed T-shirts. Other on campus activities to raise funds included Dining Services holding a silent auction in December that raised $1,626 for the cause.

“We’ve had good, consistent participation from the campus community to raise money for the United Way,” Mishler said. “This year, folks were giving more. They really stepped up to the plate to contribute more because this has been a tough year.”
