BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State University Athletics department has again teamed up with several other campus organizations and to hold “Community Health Day” this Saturday (Jan. 24) in conjunction with the Bulldogs’ Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader versus Northwood at Ferris’ Jim Wink Arena.
Besides the Athletics department, the other campus organizations and departments taking part in the event this year include the Ferris colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Optometry and Pharmacy, along with the Nursing and Dental Hygiene departments in addition to the Birkham Health Center and the Ferris Student Recreation Center.
Free informational tables will be available on a variety of health-related issues, including diabetes, immunizations, hypertension and oral health. Additionally, free screenings will be held for things such as diabetes, glaucoma, oral cancer, blood pressure and blood glucose.
The “Community Health Day” event will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Ferris Sports Complex. The women’s hoops game against Northwood tips off at 1 p.m. with the men’s game following at approximately 3 p.m.
Presently, the Bulldog men’s basketball squad is tied for second place in the GLIAC North Division standings with an 8-7 overall and 6-4 league record this campaign. The FSU women’s team enters this week’s action at 4-10 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Tickets for both of this week’s games will be available at the door starting one hour prior to tip off. All single-game general admission ticket prices are $7. Ferris students are admitted free with ID.
