Ferris Mail - What you need to know

What is Ferris Student mail?

  • Students will be given at least 7 GB of available space

What you will get?

You will have:

  • Gigabytes of e-mail storage. No more worries about having to delete old e-mail.
  • Instant messaging capability from within your mailbox.
  • Google Calendar to schedule meetings, create events, and share calendars with others.
  • Google Docs to create and share documents, spreadsheets and presentations online.
  • Your very own personalized Start Page from which you can access all services.
  • Access to your information from anywhere with an Internet connection.
  • You will have the ability to access the system with a compatible mobile device.

 

Who will have access to the new Google powered e-mail?

  • Registered students and alumni only.

 

How do I access my new e-mail account?

Student e-mail will be accessed only through MyFSU, using your current ID and password. Once you have logged into MyFSU, click on the icon for mail, located in the upper right corner of the screen.

Please note that going straight to Gmail.com or Google.com will not work to access your Ferris e-mail account. You must login through MyFSU.

What if the MyFSU page is unavailable?

You must first be logged into MyFSU to use Student mail, so if MyFSU is unavailable Student mail will not be accessible.

What is my new e-mail address?

Everyone is going to have (MyFSU login ID)@ferris.edu

How will I be able to forward my mail from Ferris to my other accounts, or have those accounts forward to my Ferris accout?

How do I set up e-mail on my phone?

It depends on which mobile phone you are using. See the instructions here. Choose your phone from the list of mobile devices.

Will my personal Gmail account (created previously) synchronize to the new Ferris student mail account?

No. They are separate accounts.

What is Google Voice (Talk)?

A voicemail feature allows your friends and contacts to send a voice message to your mail inbox. Click here to view the answer. 

Can I attach large files?

Yes. You can send and receive messages up to 20 megabytes (MB) in size. However, the precise amount allowable will depend on the attachment.

Google uses the term 'Label', what is it?

It is equivalent to a folder or similar. Click here to view the answer.

What is a 'Filter' and how do I create a 'Filter'?

Allows you to manage the flow of incoming messages. Click here.

Can I make rules to automatically send my mail into specific folders?

Are RSO e-mail accounts affected by this change

Not necessarily. RSOs that already have a Lotus Notes account are all set. If your RSO account is in Imail you will need to request a Lotus Notes account. See Contact TAC on the right menu to get an account created.
