Respondus Lockdown Browser which sets up a locked test environment on the students' computers does not work the same way in FerrisConnect as it did in the old FerrisConnect Vista. When you setup an assessment in FerrisConnect Vista and wanted to use Respondus Lockdown Browser, you would click on the security properties area and click Browser restriction. When the student went to take the assessment, they would see a message that states that they needed to download Respondus Lockdown Browser and the "Download Link" would be provided. It does not work this way in FerrisConnect. Therefore, you will need to provide the link to your students for them to download with instructions on how to use.

Setup for Instructors

The best recommendation as done by other FerrisConnect instructors is to add the link with additional instructions in the "Description" field in "Edit Test Options". The Respondus link to use in your courses is:

Instructions on how to require Respondus Lockdown Browser on a test.

1. Create your test as normal within the FerrisConnect system or by uploading it through the Respondus Test creation software.  Configure all of your settings based on your personal needs for the test.
2. Once your test has been created Click on Respondus LockDown Browser located within Course Tools within the Course Management/Control Panel area.  You may receive one or two security warning Click Yes to each.
3. You should now see your Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard which should contain all of the tests you have within the course.
4. Click on the Chevron to the left of the test you would like to require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser for the student to take the test, and select Modify Settings. You may recieve more security warnings.
5. Click the radio button to Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam.  Passwords are optional, however, students with MAC's have been known to have issues if a password is not required.
6. Click Save and Close to save your changes.

Also, with FerrisConnect, a "- Requires Respondus Lockdown Browser" is appended to the test title. This will let students know that the test requires the use of Respondus Lockdown Browser.

Message to Students

You will need to download/install the Respondus Lockdown Browser (Windows or Mac). Use the link and follow the steps. Once you have installed the Respondus Lockdown Browser close all other running applications, including any other browsers.

Taking Tests with Respondus Lockdown Browser 

When taking the unit exam, you must use the Lockdown Browser to access the Exam.

1. Once the Respondus Lockdown Browser is launched, the Server Dialog Box will appear-- this does not need to be changed, the BlackBoard 9.1 Server is the Default Setting.  Click on Enter Button.
2. You will be presented with the BlackBoard +Learn Portal Page, you will need to log in using your MyFSU User ID & Password. (same as MyFSU)
3. You will then need to select the Course & locate the Quiz/Test.
4. Once you click on the Quiz/Test link, you will be asked to type in a Password.  (This is admittedly confusing, because we choose NOT to require a password.)  Luckily, a Dialog Box will appear, allowing You to select "No Password" option (Yes/No).  Click on Enter button, to close Dialog Box & then Click Submit button.
5. The test will then be released.
6. Save your individual answers, you can always go back to change your selection and save again.
7. There is a final Save & Submit button, you will need to use at the close of the test.
