Foundation for Excellence Scholarship
The Foundation for Excellence Fund of the Ferris Foundation is hereby established.
The purpose of establishing this Fund is to offer additional opportunities for financial
assistance to exceptional and outstanding students beginning or continuing their studies
at Ferris State University. By its execution of this agreement, the Ferris Foundation
acknowledges that any property that may be contributed to the Fund shall be held by
it pursuant to the terms of these guidelines.
The Fund shall be maintained as an endowment. The principal of the Fund shall be preserved
and the investment proceeds only, as defined by the Foundation's investment and spending
policies, shall be used for the support of the Foundation for Excellence Scholarships
at Ferris State University.
The following criteria shall be used to select recipients of Foundation for Excellence First-Year Student Merit Scholarship:
- Candidates for the scholarship must be first-year students and be enrolled at full-time
status in a program in one of the University's degree-granting Colleges.
- Candidates for the scholarship shall have earned a cumulative high school grade point
average of 3.5 or above and scored a minimum of 30 (composite score) on the American
College Test (ACT) Student Profile Report.
- The Office of Student Financial Aid will select eligible candidates to submit a written
essay highlighting their leadership accomplishments and aspirations and attend an
interview with the Gifts and Grants Committee.
- The scholarship is not renewable and recipients are not eligible for the Foundation
for Excellence Upperclassman Scholarship.
- Financial need is not a determining criterion for selection.
- Selection of the recipient(s) rests with the Foundation's Gifts and Grant Committee,
with the confirmation by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
- The scholarship award date rests with the Offices of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
- The amount of the scholarship will be a minimum of $2000 (two thousand dollars), and
will be directly applied to the recipient's University account.
The following criteria shall be used to select recipients of Foundation for Excellence Upperclassman Scholarship:
- Candidates for the scholarship must be of at least junior status and be enrolled at
full-time status in a program in one of the University's degree-granting Colleges.
Transfer students with at least a junior status are also eligible.
- Candidates for the scholarship shall have earned a cumulative collegiate grade point
average of 3.5 or above.
- Financial need, determined by the Financial Aid FAFSA, is a determining criterion
for selection. Students with meritorious leadership and campus/community involvement
will be given priority.
- Candidates shall submit a written essay highlighting their campus and community involvement
and leadership and attend an interview with the Committee.
- The scholarship is not renewable and recipients of the Foundation for Excellence First-Year
Student Merit Scholarship are not eligible.
- Selection of the recipient(s) rests with the Foundation's Gifts and Grant Committee,
with confirmation by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
