Information discussed with a client during a counseling session is confidential to
the extent protected by law. information.
There are some cases, however, in which we are required by law to take action:
- If we believe you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or another person
- If we believe you have engaged in acts of child or dependent adult abuse
- If we believe you have been a victim of child abuse or neglect
- If we have information pertaining to criminal behavior, crimes, or fraud
- If we receive a lawful court order
Counseling Services are provided in accord with the ethical standards of the American
Counseling Association, ACA Code of Ethics (American Counseling Association [ACA], 2005).
