General Studies Concentrations

Career Development (GNST-CRDV)

Students admitted into the General Studies - Career Development program enroll in the CARE 102 course, Career and Educational Planning, while earning credits in English, mathematics, and other general education courses required for all degrees. Through the use of inventories, group discussions, and individual projects, you will identify education and career objectives and develop a career plan.

The process of career exploration includes working closely with academic advisors to examine personal values, abilities, skills, and experiences and to become more aware of the career development process.

Students with a decided program since the filing of the Ferris State University Application for Admissions should call (800) 433-7747 to request a program change prior to the start of the academic semester.

Directed Studies Program (GNST-DIST)

The Directed Studies concentration is the best pathway for students working to improve their academic progress toward degree completion following a difficult semester that resulted in being placed on academic, or continuing academic, probation.

This concentration is designed for returning, non-traditional, and transfer students whose cumulative college grade point is less than 2.0. Entrance into the DIST program is an opportunity to improve academic performance and qualify for the admission standards in specific programs of study.

Foundations of Interdisciplinary Studies (GNST-FIDS)

Students admitted in this concentration enjoy the support of outstanding faculty, staff and academic advisors while making good academic progress and achieving the program admission criteria necessary to gain full admission into their intended program of study.
