HMA Sampling Certification for Local Agency Projects

This HMA Sampling Course discusses the requirements of the new MDOT Special Provision for Acceptance of Hot Mix Asphalt on Local Agency Projects (12SP-501J-03). All of the new requirements in this special provision will be discussed in detail with particular emphasis on proper HMA sampling procedures meeting the requirements of this new special provision. This training course will “qualify” contractors, technicians, inspectors, consultants, and local agencies to obtain a representative sample of HMA that will yield reliable laboratory test results for acceptance of HMA mixture on Local Agency Projects. Technicians will be required to complete a written exam, 70% minimum, and a practical exam in the field or laboratory demonstrating their ability to obtain a representative sample of HMA.

This HMA Sampling Certification is effective for four years

Technicians successfully completing the HMA Level One Laboratory Technician Certification Class (aka Bit Level One) at the Ferris Construction Institute will be “qualified” to sample hot mix on Local Agency projects.
