Sigma Tau Delta- Alpha Xi Kappa

Sigma Tau Delta is an international English Honor Society with over 675 chapters in Europe and the United States.  Founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University, the mission of the society it to

  • Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies;
  • Provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in the surrounding communities;
  • Foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing;
  • Promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members;
  • Exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and
  • Serve society by fostering literacy.


The Department of Languages and Literature established Alpha Xi Kappa, a chapter of Sigma Tau Delta in spring of 2007.

To be eligible for membership in the society, students must be sophomores, have an overall grade point average of B, must be enrolled at a college or a university, and be majoring or minoring in the discipline of English.
