Harry Dempsey holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in music from Kent State University. He was a professional musician and served as bass player for Frank Sinatra, Jr.   Former Ferris Jazz Ensembles and Orchestra director, he currently teaches courses in American Popular Music (Music 228), Music Appreciation (Music 221) and Music in Film (Music 236). Plays tennis, kayaks, boats, cycles and is a notorious golf hacker.  He was given an award in 1998 by the Michigan Press Association in their "Better Newspaper Contest" for columns he wrote for the Pioneer Newspaper Group.   He was presented with the 2002 Professional Tennis Management "Distinguished Teacher of the Year" Award.   He also chaired the 2003 FSU "Distinguished Team of the Year" award-winning History Commemoration Task Force.
