The need for communication knowledge and skills is a certainty in uncertain times. “Strong communication skills required” is common in any listing of professional jobs. But Communication isn't only about careers. We need communication excellence in our social and personal lives too. Ferris' programs are developed to assure you survive the tough challenges in life and have fulfilling and satisfying relationships at work, at home, and everywhere you associate with others.

The Communication Area faculty is prepared to guide you through a short program or a deep specialty in communication study leading to many career opportunities in private and public sector employment. Our programs can go along with all your career plans.

Major Programs
The program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree shares common features with the other B.A. programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. You will complete a 30 credit hour major in communication classes, a 20 credit hour minor from any academic department of the university, and you will complete a foreign language requirement. Additional graduation and general education requirements apply.

Students who seek a deeper specialty in communization enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Applied Communication degree program. The degree requires more credits in communication, an application to the workplace course package and an internship in an actual workplace. Additional graduation and general education requirements apply.

Minor Programs and Concentrations
Students in any program of study are encouraged to complete a 20 credit hour minor in communication that is open to all students. We also offer minors in sports communication and teaching speech communication in the public schools. Additionally we can guide you to a lifetime of competence with one of our growing list of concentrations—often just three classes. Contact us, and we will give you more information.
