If you have not been back to campus for some time, you will find
that much has changed — and now, even more changes are taking
place. For example, this past summer we bade a fond farewell to three
beloved campus landmarks with the demolition of Masselink and
Carlisle residence halls, and much of the Rankin Student Center
(no more Dome Room!) to make way for a new University Center
and some much-needed parking. For many of us, those buildings
were home, or what felt like home, throughout our Ferris journeys.
From hall get-togethers, great meals and big dances to regular RSO
meetings, job interviews and visits to the Dean of Students Office,
the events those buildings hosted make them a part of our lasting
memories and an indelible part of Ferris history. Thank you to
everyone who requested commemorative bricks from those sites and
picked them up at Homecoming in October.
Our goal is to make the new University Center the central point
on campus. We want a building that will be alive with laughter,
conversation and learning — a building that will become an icon of the
Ferris experience for the next generation of Bulldogs. You can follow
construction progress by visiting
ferris.edu/HTMLS/administration/
adminandfinance/physical/renovation
as this major project takes
shape. We expect to welcome students, faculty, alumni and the local
community to begin enjoying the new University Center.
Also under construction is our network of alumni — with the
Bulldog Nation now totaling more than 130,000 alumni throughout
Michigan, across the country and around the world. We invite you to
join the camaraderie and take advantage of the many events, programs
and discounts that are just a click away at
ferrisalumni.org
. Also,
your Ferris Alumni Association is proud to announce that, with the
support of your fellow Bulldogs, it provided $30,000 in scholarships
to 27 students via the Legacy Scholarship Program this fall. These
and many other scholarships are only possible with annual fund gifts
from you, alumni.
So please, when the annual fund letter hits your mailbox, or one of
our students reaches out to you on the phone from our call center on
campus, help us achieve our goal of doubling alumni participation
and support of Ferris State University by making an annual gift before
the end of 2013. As our university’s founder, Woodbridge N. Ferris,
offered in his holiday greeting of 1908,
Leaving warmth behind,
With a message and a prayer,
Just be kind, kind, kind.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Mishler, ’96
