Schedule a CLEP Testing Appointment

Necessary Information

Please make sure you have verified with your faculty advisor or someone in your program that you are eligible to take the CLEP test you want and that it will do what you need it to do BEFORE you sign up and pay for the test on CLEP's website. You cannot be enrolled in a class for which you want to take a CLEP test.

CLEP tests are available most weekdays at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. based on room and staff availability. Please note that reservations must be made at least 24 business hours in advance and will not be considered an appointment until a Testing Office representative contacts you. Those contacts will be made via phone within 48 hours (EXCLUDING weekends and holidays as we are closed). For instance, if you make your appointment after 5 p.m. or weekends, you will not be able to sign up for tests the following day (or Monday) as that is not 24 hours in advance.

Ninety minutes of testing time is allowed for most CLEP tests; College Composition is two hours.

The fee payment for each test is a total of $118 (subject to change as CLEP typically raises their fee every July 1). CLEP accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. Ferris does NOT accept credit or debit cards--only cash, check and money orders will be accepted. Make sure you get 2 receipts from the Student Service Representative taking your money.

To register and pay CLEP's part of the fee, go to https://clep.collegeboard.org/clep-benefits-for-everyone and either log into your College Board AP account or create a new one. This MUST be done before you come to your appointment. Print out your registration ticket--you will need to present it at your appointment.

Bring ONE government-issued, current, valid photo identification (preferably your driver's license, state ID or passport), your registration ticket and your two receipts (if you paid the $25) to your appointment.

A scaled score of 50 or higher on each test is required to earn credit at Ferris State (except the foreign language exams), and credit is awarded only to students currently enrolled. To print out a copy of Course Equivalents and Credits for CLEP Examinations in Adobe Acrobat format, click here.

For most CLEP tests, you will receive your score report immediately upon completion of the test. If you are taking a test with an essay, please ask the test administrator when you can expect your results. The College Composition test can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to receive your results.
