Academic Opportunity Scholarship

This scholarship is available to incoming freshmen in all majors with a minimum 3.00 high school GPA, that are also Michigan residents. *Preference given to minority students. A letter of recommendation from someone other than a relative must be submitted with application. An essay is also required - see application for details.

*This scholarship was available to students before the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI) , also referred to as Proposal 2, became law on December 22, 2006.

The award amount is $2,000 per year and is renewable.

Application deadline: March 20

Applications for 2014-2015 will become available December 20, 2013.


Alumni Board Scholarship    Back to top

Applicants must be current full-time College of Education and Human Services students with a minimum cumulative FSU grade point average of 2.00 in an undergraduate program or a minimum of 3.00 in a graduate program.

The award amount varies per year and is non–renewable.

Dean Whitehead Scholarship    Back to top

Criminal Justice students who are at least junior level and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative Ferris State University grade point average, are enrolled full–time, and a US citizen are eligible to apply. Applicant must evidence a financial need as determined by the Ferris State University Financial Aid Office.

The award amount varies per year and is non–renewable.

The deadline to apply is April 1.

Dr. Mary L. McCorriston Child Development    Back to top

Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship must be enrolled as full-time students in Child Development and have demonstrated leadership and potential to be an outstanding teacher of young children. Candidates for the scholarships shall have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and have been enrolled in the Child Development program for two (2) consecutive semesters.

The award amount is $500.00 per year and is renewable.

Edward Griffin Memorial Teacher Education    Back to top

A candidate for the scholarship must be a fully matriculated student of junior standing enrolled in the Ferris State University College of Education. The scholarship will be awarded to a student whose cumulative GPA is 2.5 or better.

Ferris Foundation Need Based Scholarship    Back to top

Students wishing to apply for this scholarship are required to complete a FAFSA and be enrolled full-time in any undergraduate program. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient remains a full-time undergraduate student and has demonstrated satisfactory academic progress as specified by the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid.

The award amount varies.

Application deadline: March 20

Applications for 2014-2015 will become available December 20, 2013.


George Storm Memorial Technical Teacher Education    Back to top

Students in Technical Teacher Education with a minimum of 2.75 cumulative Ferris State University grade point average with at least Junior standing are eligible to apply. Preference is given to students who participate in professional organizations and underrepresented populations.

The maximum amount of the award is equal to one semester’s tuition and is non–renewable.

James & Christine Jacobs Non-Traditional Student Scholarship    Back to top

This scholarship shall be awarded to full-time and/or part-time student(s) enrolled in any Ferris State University main campus program. The recipient shall have been out of high school for at least five years and registered for a minimum of three Ferris State University credits.

The award amount varies and is renewable with application.

Millard J. & Ida Quinlan Memorial Scholarship    Back to top

Applicants must be full-time College of Education and Human Services students with at least a sophomore standing and a minimum FSU cumulative grade point average of 3.00 is required. Preference shall be given to students from Luce, Mackinaw and Chippewa counties.

The award amount varies and is renewable provided the recipient remains a full-time undergraduate student in the COEHS and has demonstrated satisfactory academic progress.

Ralph C. & J. William (Bill) Wenrich Educational Excellence Scholarship   Back to top

Students who are enrolled in the Masters' programs in Career and Technical Education (CTE) and the Doctorate in Community College Leadership (DCCL) may apply for this scholarship.  The recipient will be chosen based on their financial need as determined by the completion of the FAFSA.  Students will need to write an essay explaining how he or she expects to contribute to advancing excellence in education.

The award amount will cover the cost of 12 credit hours over the course of one year at the current tuition rate for the appropriate program.

It is a one-time, non-renewable award.

Students in Television Production who have attained at least junior level and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative Ferris State University grade point average are eligible to apply.

Tomczyk, Brian Memorial "Optimistic Attitude"  Scholarship   Back to top

Applicants for this scholarship must be enrolled full-time in the Teacher Education Program majoring in History Education. Applicant must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA. Financial need is not considered. Preference to those who can demonstrate a free-spirited, positive approach toward life and living, an appreciation for nature and natural environments, with emphasis on outdoor and nautical activities and a strong passion for world travel and adventure.

The award amount varies.

Woodbridge N. Ferris Scholarships    Back to top

Ferris State University offers several scholarship opportunities to first-time attending freshmen based on their high school GPA and their ACT or SAT scores. To maintain eligibility for the WNF Scholarships, students must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress per the policy of the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
