Where do I find available opportunities to apply for?

Professional Trainee positions will be identified and hired for each Spring semester, typically in April.  Available professional trainee positions will be posted on the Student Employment job list located in your MyFSU account and advertised in a variety of ways.   You can also contact the Center For Leadership, Activities, and Career Services at 231.591.2685 for information and referral to an opportunity that fits your interests.

What can I expect during the application period?

Because this is a high level employment opportunity you can expect to go through a full application process.  This includes completing a special Professional Trainee application (see below), resume, and cover letter.  All applications are submitted directly to the specific hiring worksite.  Applications will be reviewed and qualified applicants will receive an interview.  Assistance with completing the application process, including resume reviews and mock interviews is available by appointment in the Career Services office.

I'm hired, now what?

Along with your job offer, you will also receive correspondence from the SEI coordinator.   Before your first day of work, you will participate in an orientation that includes all Professional Trainees.  During the 1/2 day orientation you will learn about the Ferris history, mission, values, customer service, maintaining a healthy work/life balance, professional trainee expectations, and leadership skills.  This will set you up for success!  Once you attend the orientation, your worksite supervisor will create a work schedule.  During your first few weeks on the job you will receive worksite specific training, discuss special projects, and create goals.  The SEI coordinator will continue to correspond with you to answer questions and monitor your participation.

What is a performance evaluation?

Through-out your year of service you will participate in two performance evaluations.  This will identify your strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments, and all the learning you have completed.  Every Professional Trainee will have the same evaluation.   Your worksite supervisor may have an additional evaluation for you to meet their specific needs.   You will receive more information about the evaluation at your orientation.
