Financial Appeals Due to Medical Issues

 Students who withdraw from all classes for a given semester due to a medical condition may submit a financial appeal due to medical issues. Only one appeal per student will be accepted during academic attendance at Ferris State University. This appeal is not available for students owing a balance due to a reversal of Financial Aid and/or those that received a Financial Aid refund. The decision made by Business Operations is final and cannot be appealed with another office.

  1. Send a letter regarding your request for appeal to the Manager of Business Operation (1201 S. State St. CSS 101T, Big Rapids, MI 49307), detailing the date of withdrawal and medical issues that precipitated your withdrawal.
  2. Include a letter from your doctor regarding your condition.
  3. The Manager of Business Operations will review the appeal and provide a written decision to the student.
  4. Appeals must be received by the Manager of Business Operations within thirty (30) days after a class drop or ninety (90) days after a total withdrawal is processed with the Records Office.

Students who withdraw from all classes for a given semester due to other issues may submit a financial appeal due to extenuating circumstances. Other issues include, but are not limited to, changes in work schedule, family emergencies, or other changes in circumstances. Only one appeal per student will be accepted during academic attendance at Ferris State University. This appeal is not available for students owing a balance due to a reversal of Financial Aid and/or those that received a Financial Aid refund. The decision made by Business Operations is final and cannot be appealed with another office.

Appeal for Change of Grade/Status Due to Total Withdrawal or Cancellation

If you have received grades, such as "W" (withdrawal) and "WF" (withdrawn failing), on your academic record and you feel that they are a result of an incorrect status determination, you have the option to appeal through the Records Office. To appeal the grade/status you should complete the following document and submit it to the Records Office, Attn: Registrar, 1201 S. State St. CSS 201, Big Rapids, MI 49307. Include any documentation that supports this appeal.
