Study Abroad Miles

The Study Abroad Miles Program works with the Conversation Partner program to enable native English speaking students the opportunity to earn Study Abroad Miles towards a study abroad program.

With this program you can:

  • Earn one Study Abroad Mile for every hour you work with the Conversation Partner Program to be used toward a Ferris Study Abroad Program
  • One Study Abroad Mile = $8
  • Volunteer up to ten hours per week
  • Earn up to a total of $2400 to use toward a Ferris Study Abroad Program

Students who participate in this program agree to volunteer with the Conversation Partner Program and work within the expectations of the program. Miles will be awarded once the student has applied and been approved for a study abroad program. Participants will be selected by the Study Abroad Miles Committee.

Conversation Partner Program

Confersation Partner ProgramThe Conversation Partners Program offers students, faculty, staff, or community members an opportunity to learn about different cultures while helping international students in the Intensive English Program practice English conversation and integrate into the Ferris community. English-speaking participants will meet with Intensive English Program students one-on-one or in small groups anywhere from one to ten hours each week depending on their schedules and interests.

Being a Conversation Partner is a semester long commitment. Conversation partners are matched together based on available schedules and gender/country preference. No experience or foreign language abilities are required. You will be contacted by the Academic Coordinator for the Intensive English Program to arrange a schedule for participation.
