In November of 2011 Ferris State and the Entrepreneurship Institute hosted events in accordance with Global Entrepreneurship Week. Going along with the theme of "empowerment" a week long series of events were held at Ferris. Events included
"Launching your Invention" by Ferris alumnus Michael Suman; Mr. Suman is the owner of Product and Market Development L.L.C. His presentation focused on the top five things that individual inventors can improve when launching their idea from dream to reality. Suman also discussed the top five things that corporations can improve when growth teams are moving a new idea through the company.
"The Secret Energies of Entrepreneurial Empowerment" will be the topic of Keith Brophy, the CEO of IdeoMed. Brophy’s presentation highlighted tips on how to master mixing creative, high and positive energies and harness the inevitable negative energy through the evolution of business.
EI also hosted a pitch competition for Ferris students to express their ideas and inventions to a panel for prizes.
"Entrepreneurial Empowerment Exemplified: The Creation of Mercantile Bank of Michigan" was the final featured event held in Grand Rapids at Mercantile Bank. The presentation featured Michael H. Price, chairman of the board and CEO of Mercantile Bank of Michigan. Price shared his story of the founding of Mercantile Bank and how the founders empowered themselves to become entrepreneurs.
