Lawrence V. WellsLawrence V. Wells is a native of Dayton, Ohio. He attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts Education. He earned a M.A. in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. He furthered his pursuit of education by earning a Ph.D. degree, in Curriculum and Instruction, from Michigan State University.

Dr. Wells taught senior high school Industrial Arts in Dayton Public Schools. Subsequently, he served as assistant principal in the Jefferson Local School District at Jefferson Senior High School. Later he was hired by the School District of the City of Saginaw where he served as principal at several Saginaw elementary schools for 26 years. During his next four years with Saginaw Schools, he served the District as Director of Human Resources, Fringe Benefits and Equal Employment Opportunity Officer. Most recently, he had been an Adjunct Professor in the Educational Leadership Department of the College of Education at Saginaw Valley State University. Dr. Wells brings a wealth of experience to the Ferris State University Charter Schools Office with his combined experience of 34 years in k-12 education in both the classroom and administrative positions, as well as teaching in higher education.

Duties and responsibilities include planning, organizing, coordinating, collaborating, directing, evaluating and facilitating the efforts of CSO staff in pursuit of the Ferris State University Charter Schools Office mission of continuous quality improvement. Central to these duties is monitoring the compliance of FSU authorized academies with the terms and conditions specified by contract with the University, and with state and federal laws, facilitating academy evaluations, and officially representing FSU in all matters pertaining to CSO operations. These responsibilities also include reporting and making recommendations to the FSU Board of Trustees regarding Academy Board of Director membership appointments and charter contractual amendments.
