Jim Rikkers

Mr. James Rikkers currently serves as a field representative for the Ferris State University Charter Schools Office. He has 20 years of experience as a local district school superintendent and nine years of building level administrative experience in Michigan and New York State. His educational preparation includes B.A., M.A. and EdS degrees from Eastern Michigan University. In addition to his Ferris responsibilities Mr. Rikkers serves as senior consultant for the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency. He is also an adjunct instructor and field services consultant for the Michigan Association of School Boards. His consulting experience includes strategic planning, board/superintendent relationships, executive coaching, leadership training and superintendent searches.

* Bridge Academy - East Campus, Hamtramck
* Bridge Academy - West Campus, Detroit
* Clara B. Ford Academy, Detroit
* Joy Preparatory Academy - Dexter, Detroit
* Joy Preparatory Academy - Oakman, Detroit

Field Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

FSU Field Representatives serve as the "eyes and ears" of the CSO office in the field. Representatives are required to visit their assigned academies and Academy Board meetings at least six (6) times during the year to monitor and report back to the CSO on the following:

* Safety compliance
* Teacher certification
* Oversight review
* Classroom observations
* Operational issues within the Academy
* General operation upkeep of physical plant
* Proper posting of the Academy Board meetings
* Proper parliamentary procedures at Board meetings

All academy visits are documented in report form to the Director within five (5) days of attendance, and verbal reports on academies are given at monthly meetings of the CSO staff.
