ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAKS

March 4-12, 2006

Juarex, Mexico

Ten students affiliated with His House Christian Fellowship went to Juarez, Mexico and worked with Casas Por Christo and built a house for a family of five in two days. Prior to this the family lived in a house made of cardboard and wooden palettes. One of the students said: "In two days we finished building a house for a young couple who had three small boys! This was my second trip going to Juarez, Mexico and once again I got to help out, and in the process I was exposed to a different culture, immense need and immense poverty."

Chalmette, Louisiana

Ten students affiliated with Real Life Christian Ministries traveled to the Gulf Coast to Chalmette, Louisiana for a week to de-mud houses, which basically involves gutting out each house. A student's reponse was, "When I went to Chalmette, Louisiana with Real Life Christian Ministries I gained a new outlook on life and a new feeling of self-worth. I realized even more than ever before that this life is only temporary. What really counts is how you live your life, not what objects and possessions you can obtain throughout your brief life."

Other Alternative Spring Breaks

During spring break four Honors students went to Chicago and helped to clean up community buildings; three other students affiliated with the Fellowship of Christian Students went to Laurel, Mississippi to help with hurricane relief. While in Laurel they roofed, painted and cleaned up houses that had been damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
