FSU Pre-Law Resource Committee

Orientation to Law School

The mission of the Pre-Law Resource Committee is to advise any and all Ferris students who are interested in pursuing law-related professions. This committee, composed primarily of attorneys, is willing to share their experiences regarding the law school admission process, how to study for the LSAT, what to expect in law school, which law schools to apply to, how practicing law differs from the study of law, etc.

In addition, the Honors Program sponsors a class each winter semester entitled Orientation to Law School, UNIV 200. Any student who is seriously considering law school is advised to take this class. In order to register for it the student needs to be a member of the Honors Program or, if not enrolled in Honors, needs to secure the permission of the instructor. In UNIV 200, a one credit pass/fail class, students will visit two or more law schools and observe a law school class. Topics addressed in UNIV 200 are the following: Web-based legal research, how to finance and select a law school, the law school admission process, how to prepare for the LSAT, researching law schools on the internet, how to succeed in law school, the economics of the practice of law, the various career choices in the legal profession, the value of networking in college and in law school, and the importance of finding mentors.
