 Atomic Learning

This hands-on session introduces faculty and staff to the Atomic Learning video tutorial repository, explains the many ways the tool can be used, demonstrates how to share video links with others, and how to embed video links into FerrisConnect Learn.

 Blackboard Mobile Learn

Faculty can use Blackboard Mobile Learn to extend the classroom experience beyond the typical classroom walls. With Blackboard Mobile, students can experience online content and collaboration anywhere they go. This session will look at the features of Blackboard Mobile and explore how the tool can be used. 

 TED: Ideas Worth Sharing

TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing ideas of the worlds most fascinating, inspired thinkers and doers, which will change people's attitudes and way of thinking.  In this session we will search though the vast recordings available on www.ted.com and show how they could be integrated into Blackboard. The involvement of Ferris at the local TEDx Grand Rapids will also be discussed. 

 Game-Based Learning

In this session, we will spend time examining successful game development and discuss how it relates to curriculum development. Strategies on implementing games into existing lessons will be presented. Standards and assessment tools will be reviewed. Pedagogical shifts with the devaluation of information will be discussed, and roles of teachers in classrooms will be debated. We will highlight literacy’s transformation from a passive consumption of information to an active creation of content. 

 MOOCS

MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) will be reviewed. The influence on the traditional education model will be debated. This will be an open discussion with a brief history of what MOOCs are, who are actively involved in creating them, and what the student population is. 

 Respondus

Respondus is a test creation tool that allows you to create your own questions, quizzes, and surveys for use in FerrisConnect while you are offline. Questions can be typed directly into Respondus, imported from a file, or retrieved from a FerrisConnect course. This workshop will guide participants in creating a Respondus test and deploying it in FerrisConnect.

Similar to the TED fireside chat, this session will focus on integrating YouTube videos into your course. We’ll also demonstrate how to upload videos and talk about best practices for creating and editing videos. 

 Adobe Connect

Adobe Connect is the University's web conferencing tool. It can be used to hold virtual meetings with faculty and staff on and off campus or with classes. Sessions can be recorded and archived as well to be shared with users who were unable to make the meeting. Discussions about known limitations, and common challenges will be part of any session. Alternatives will also be discussed. 

 Join Me

Join.Me is a web based, screen sharing service that is free. It allows you to setup a one-time session where you can either see the students computer screen, or they can see yours. It is perfect for distance learning and allowing for quick demonstrations.

 iPad Apps

Are you looking for a mobile app? Have you found an app that works great for you?  Do you just like being "in the know?" Join us for a fun show-and-tell session of "Is There an App for That?" where we will go around the room and tell each other about cool apps we have and show what the apps can do. During this session we will be showing off a collection of productivity tools. Participants are encouraged to bring their own device and demonstrate their favorite apps. 

 Reporting on Students within FerrisConnect

In this session, we will examine course reports, the early warning system, statistics tracking and the performance dashboard in Blackboard. We will also discuss what information is needed by the Registrar's Office when a student withdraws, as well as special reports you can request from the e-Learning team that come directly from the database.

 Tegrity

What could you do with a few extra hours? Faculty traditionally use Tegrity to record a course lecture for their students to review, but there are many other ways faculty use Tegrity to help them be more effective. Come to this session to hear creative ideas on how faculty have their students use Tegrity to perform foreign language oral tests, medical practical exams, student teaching sessions, and even to proctor online exams.  In addition to capturing a lecture in the classroom, Tegrity can be used to create quick tutorials by faculty and administrators at work or at home.  In this session, you will learn how to access and navigate Tegrity, as well as how to create, upload, edit and delete a recording.

 iTunes U

April 24 from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM in FLITE 408

iTunes is a free universal media repertoire that most students carry around with them on the mobile device in their pocket or the laptop in their backpack. Ferris has joined hundreds of other institutions on iTunes U to allow faculty to serve up videos or podcasts to students in a particular course. Load the media up once and it will always be available for future classes to download and listen to on the go.
