The current official vendor for Laptop/Notebooks for Ferris is Dell Computing Corporation

The Ferris State University Standards Committee requires the following minimums for the purchase of a new laptop/notebook computer:

  • Latitude Family
  • Intel Core i7 Based Mobile Processor (Business model rather than personal model)
  • 4 Gb RAM
  • Integrated Network Interface Card
  • No integrated Modem
  • Wireless A/B/G/N Compliant Interface
  • 250 Gb, 7200 RPM Hard Drive
  • DVDRW+- drive
  • E/Port Advanced Port Replicator
  • 4 year limited warranty
  • Video Card w/512 Mb RAM
  • Nylon carrying case

If the budget allows, we recommend purchasing, in the following order, additional RAM, a larger hard drive, and a faster processor. Since each department has unique computer requirements, please contact your local computer support office to determine what hardware configuration will best suit the software applications you use for your work.

Computer Minimum Replacement Recommendations:
In order to run FSU's standard software load, the Standard's Committee recommends replacement of any laptop/notebook computer that is:

  • Latitude D620 or older

Exceptions for special situations, such as Macintosh/Apple computers or other computer vendors, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The PC vendor review is performed by the committee every four years. The next review will be completed in 2013.
