Accounts and Passwords
Student accounts are created after a student is accepted by the university. Faculty accounts are determined by the Campus Computing Access and Account Creation Policy Letter found here.

Your username is the FSU computing ID you use for the following systems:

  • MyFSU
  • Novell
  • Banner
  • Student Employment
  • WebCT
  • Cisco Clean Access (CCA)
  • NT Domain

Different usernames and passwords are used for FSUimail and Lotus Notes (Client and Web). These links address various issues related to each account.

Software and Hardware

Software

There are several software options available to faculty and staff through the software section. On this page you can find information about some of the programs available for download as well as software available for purchase by the students. Some of the software programs available for purchase include Microsoft Office® and Windows XP Professional®.

Hardware

Ferris State offers a wide variety of services to support the hardware needs of the students and faculty. As a Dell certified shop, computers under warranty can be fixed with no additional charge. Computers not under a Dell warranty can still be fixed; however, there may be a charged assessed for the service. Aside from the repair services, hardware can also be purchased from STS. The page found here will provide you with any information needed concerning hardware.

Phone and Cable Services

Phone Services
Ferris provides many phone services for students and faculty alike. These services are accessible in campus offices, on-campus housing, and other courtesy locations.

The links on this page address various functions of the telecommunication services, how to program your phone, phone extensions, the cost of using phones on campus, and any other problems that may occur while you are accessing these services.

Cable Services
Students are provided with access to select television cable channels. More information on these channels can be found here. Information on Bulldog TV, Ferris’s student-run television channel, can also be found on the same page.

Training and Seminars
Trainings, Seminars and Demonstrations
This page is meant for faculty training on work-related procedures such as posting grades, accessing faculty emails, and so on. If you know exactly what concern or problem you have, the Quick Help Guides are a good link to start with.

Labs and Classrooms
Labs
There are several easy access labs available to faculty and students located around the Ferris State campus. With each individual college housing its’ own lab, Flite, and labs situated in various Residence Halls on campus, a lab can be conveniently found no matter where you are on campus. The links found here can help you find labs in your area as well as the labs that accommodate your individual needs.

Classrooms
Our classrooms come equipped with instructional tools such as computer workstations, LCD overhead projectors, and video equipment. This top of the line technology aids our instructors in educating the students in the classroom setting. On this page you can find links to instruction manuals for the different hardware located in the classrooms as well as a quick troubleshoot section for minor problems.

FLITE Resources

Flite offers additional resources and accommodations that cannot be found anywhere else on campus. In addition to the extensive database offered through Flite, multimedia tools are available for use and adaptive technologies labs to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Flite also offers several color printers and copiers to meet the needs of our faculty and students. Furthermore Flite offers specific software on select computers specific to certain colleges on campus. The links on this page provide specific information on the resources that Flite can offer you.

Projects
There are several ongoing projects that are taking place across the Ferris State campus. Some of these projects include the installation of wireless internet across campus, PC replacement, and the rewiring of Finch court. This page can provide you with information about each project undertaken as well as providing a progress report for each project.

Viruses and Security

Identity Theft

The threat of identity theft and stolen passwords is a serious issue that can have disastrous effects in people’s lives. Every possible precaution should be taken in order to protect yourself from these threats. The information found here will give you some tips to help you create stronger passwords therefore protecting your online identity. On this page you will also find information about email and internet security.

Data Security

There are several legal policies that all Ferris State faculty and students are expected to follow. Some of the policies outlined in this section include information concerning copyright violation issues and the information request act. Specific information about the policies can be found here.

Internet / Network
Networking

The networking section provides many resources that are useful for faculty and students who are not familiar with the Ferris State network. The links found on this page can help users with such task as connecting to the wireless network and connecting to the residence hall printers.

Gaming

With the various gaming systems that students have on campus, many have the option of playing online. In order to do this here at Ferris, the user must register the system on the network. This page has all the necessary steps to run you through the registration process. Also this page links to the home page of the Computer Enthusiasts Group where you can find more information about their registered student organization and the Ferris gaming server.
