Student Services
  1. Does Banner allow transfer pre-reqs? It does and as noted is related to transfer credits.
  2. If I look up a student transcript, records on Banner, and then want to look up a different student, do I have to back out and log in new? No, you just have to put in a new Student ID in SSB.
  3. I have Netscape 8.1. INB will not work. I get an error message. Will NS 8 be an accepted browser soon? Regarding Netscape 8.1. SunGard only lists a browser as supported once they have fully tested and certified a specific version. They do not provide estimates as to when or what new version will be certified in the future. SunGard's recommend best practice is not to update Banner user's browsers prior to consulting this list.

Banner has necessitated that Browser versions in use on campus be managed more stringently than in the past. It is recommended that this issue be addressed with TAC/IS&T management to determine the appropriate response as it is more a technology issue and outside our realm of Banner Student functional issues.

  4. Previously SIS allowed you to login in the morning and keep it running all day. That has changed; the system now times out after a certain period. It is the same with Banner and/or MyFSU? SIS Plus did allow one to stay in it. Howvever, like SIS Plus Self Service, Banner Self Service stays active an equal amount of time--both having timeout features built-in. SIS Plus did allow one to stay in it, and INB also allows all day access.
  5. Should every faculty have access to all class list and student records -- not only their own classes. They do in SSB.
  6. Would like to have the timer optional or extended during business hours. Now it appears to be a very short period of time. You can be working on a Banner document, then switch to something else, and you get back to the login screen. This needs to addressed with the Portal Advisory Committee. Contact Vicky Deur at x2133.
  7. Will it allow a previous year's semester schedule to be used as a starting point template versus inputting scheduling from scratch each time? We will look at this. Howvever, we did do such in SIS Plus, but departments did not review such and it caused many issues. Since the previous experience was not good there are no plans to repeat these problems.
  8. When you are looking up information on a student, the only time you see his/her student ID number is when you first pull them up. After you start to process them and move from screen to screen, the only ID number you see is your own. The student's ID number never comes up again. So if you happen to need it you have to get back out or have written it down. Yes, in SSB that is true. It is because it is you (faculty/staff) looking at a student's information. It is a built-in security feature of Banner.
  9. I CAN'T believe how cumbersome it is to, for example, to modify (add, change, and delete) a student's schedule, let alone navigating, i.e., looking at an open class, looking at student's schedule. It is taking the secretaries forever to build the Spring semester schedule. The list goes on and on. Yes, processes do take longer in Banner but much of the cumbersome and extra time will diminish as areas become more familiar with the forms.
  10. Is there a way we can create an audit trail, such as the 139 or 218 as the old SIS plus? SIS plus 139 allowed us to select certain criteria of courses and term; which allowed us to view specific information such as, the day and time a modification and/or if any action was made. It also was summarized and listed in chronological date order with an operator number, which made it much easier to read; rather then looking at SOILCUR on several different records. SGASTDQ is similar to the 139 screen however, it doesnýt list any college changes and or program changes; summarized on one page. The 218 screen also listed any program changes that occurred, in the event the student became interested and/or accepted (cc) in another program or college. I know that SGASTDQ has most of this information, but not without having to look at several other forms. SGASTDN is no longer available for staff to utilize. You have asked two very good questions. The first question regarding the replacement for the 139 screen in SIS Plus is a Banner form called SFASTCA. This form can be modified to view specific registration information by entering a query, enter just the information you want to view and then execute the query.

The second question regarding the 218 screen in SIS Plus is the SOILCUR form. There are many options on this form and you may not be aware of some of them. After entering the student's ID you may select a module in the Summary box. To view the information you are requesting select the Admission or Learner Summary. The selection will depend on if you want to view admissions or current student information. There are also the Module, Term or View Current/Active Curricula drop down boxes that can be selected to narrow your search for a student. The less inforamtion entered on this form the wider your search is and the more information you see about a student.

All of us need to be aware that most forms in Banner are not exact matches to the screens we are used to looking at in SIS Plus. Most times the information is there but sometimes we have to hunt for it or view it on more than one form.
