CCHA WEEKLY HONORS HANDED OUT TO TWO FERRIS STATE PLAYERS
Jorgensen and O'Keefe Receive CCHA Player of the Week Recognition
Junior defenseman Jim Jorgensen (Sault Ste. Marie) and sophomore goaltender Mitch O'Keefe (Almonte, Ontario) of the 2006-07 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team have been selected as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week, respectively, for this week (Nov. 27). The announcement was made by the league office.
Jorgensen scored one goal and assisted on another in Ferris State's 4-0 league victory over Western Michigan last Tuesday (Nov. 21) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. He also blocked two shots and recorded a +3 efficiency rating in the contest.
O'Keefe also turned in a solid performance as he blocked all 24 Broncos' shots on net in posting his third career shutout which moved him into fourth place among the school's all-time leaders. O'Keefe also earned the game's first star.
In 12 contests this season, Jorgensen has compiled six points on a career season-best three goals and assists apiece which currently ranks as second best among the Bulldogs' top-scoring defenseman. Jorgensen has totaled 28 points on six lamplighters and 22 assists in 78 career outings to date.
O'Keefe presently sports a 4-8-1 record this campaign with a 2.78 goals-against average (35 goals allowed) and an .893 save percentage (292 saves) in 13 appearances. He has accumulated 20 or more saves in a game 11 times this season, which includes a season-high 34 stops versus Michigan (Nov. 17).
A starter in 45 of 46 career games played, O'Keefe has posted an 18-20-8 record to go with a 2.71 goals-against average (123 goals allowed) and a .901 save percentage (1,120 saves). O'Keefe, who was FSU's 2005-06 Rookie of the Year, garnered CCHA Goaltender of the Week laurels once last season (Nov. 14) and was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week on another occasion (Oct. 24).
The Bulldogs, who are presently 4-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the CCHA this season, will take to the road this weekend (Dec. 1-2) for a two-game CCHA series versus the nationally-ranked Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks at the new Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio. Opening faceoff for this Friday's (Dec. 1) game is 7:35 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's (Dec. 2) series finale will start at 7:05 p.m. (EST).
