Ferris State Goaltender Helps Bulldogs To A Season-Best Six Victories In February

Ferris State University junior goaltender Derek MacIntyre (Stanwood) has been named the RBC Financial Group Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Player of the Month for February in a recent announcement made by the league office.
|Derek MacIntyre posted a 4-1-0 record in February to receive RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month recognition.
MacIntyre posted a 4-1-0 record in five February contests to go with a .950 save percentage (151 total saves) and a 1.60 goals-against average (eight goals allowed) in 299:24 minutes between the posts. A 2004-05 CCHA All-Rookie Honorable Mention Team selection, MacIntyre allowed only three even-strength goals with the remainder coming on the opposition's power play. The 6-2, 214-pound MacIntyre averaged 30.2 saves per game in his five appearances.
The Bulldog netminder won his first four starts of the month, which began with a season-high 38 saves in the Bulldogs' 6-2 home league win over Ohio State (Feb. 3). MacIntyre turned away 23 shots in Ferris' 2-1 home win over then nationally fifth-ranked Michigan State (Feb. 13).
The following weekend (Feb. 16-17), MacIntyre made consecutive starts in a home series sweep of Bowling Green State. He had 29 saves in a 2-1 triumph over the Falcons (Feb. 17) and then blocked 28 shots in a 5-2 Ferris victory (Feb. 17). A 2004 National Hockey League (NHL) eighth-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, MacIntyre's three wins in a one-week span earned him CCHA Goaltender of the Week (Feb. 19) accolades and was a runner-up for the Inside College Hockey.com's (INCH) Shop Player of the Week (Feb. 20).
MacIntyre's only loss in February occurred at nationally top-ranked Notre Dame (Feb. 24). Although Ferris State was outshot by a 35-15 margin, MacIntyre totaled 33 saves, including 16 stops in a scoreless first period, to keep the Bulldogs in the contest and was named the contest's third star for his performance.
MacIntyre finished this season with a 7-3-0 record as the seven victories marked a personal career single-season high. He turned in a 3.43 goals-against average (39 goals allowed) and an .889 save percentage (311 saves) in 13 appearances.
In 38 career games to date, MacIntyre has compiled a 15-14-2 mark with a .889 saves percentage (887 total saves) and a 3.28 goals-against average (111 goals allowed).
Ferris State concluded the 2006-07 season at 14-22-3 overall. The Bulldogs finished ninth place in the final CCHA regular-season standings with a 10-16-2 league mark.
