I'm graduating. How do I start to look for a job?

First of all, Congratulations! Student Employment & Career Services is a great place to begin your job search. We have the staff and the resources to help you formulate a job search plan that is just right for you. SE&CS offers workshops for job seekers including: Writing a Résumé  and Cover Letter, Job Search, Interview Skills, and Portfolios. SE&CS can help you target your job search and suggest resources, contacts, mock interviews or special events, such as the fall or spring job fairs, allied health job fair and the annual Career Tactics Workshops, that will support your career and job search goals. We will also critique your résumé and cover letters. We strongly urge you to register with e-Recruiting in order to view job postings, participate in on-campus interviews, and publish your résumé to make it available on the web résumé book for employers to view.

I’ve already graduated. Will you help me with my job search or to change jobs?

As an alumni of FSU you are eligible for all the services mentioned above.

e-Recruiting – What is it and how do I participate?

e-Recruiting is an exciting, innovative automated system, which has the capability of matching students with a wide variety of employment opportunities in a fast, efficient manner. FSU students/alumni complete an on-line registration (including things such as name, address, major, graduation date, job target, etc.) To register for employment programs such as on-campus interviewing, the web résumé book, and to view current job openings, students must be registered in e-Recruiting.

Click here to find out more or to began using e-Recruiting.

What information do you have on full-time job vacancies?

Each year, SE&CS receives well over 2,000 full-time positions appropriate for recent FSU graduates. For immediate access to full-time employment job listings (updated daily) students/alumni must register in e-Recruiting.

How do I find out what employers will be interviewing on-campus for internships or full-time positions and how do I participate?

Employers conduct on-campus interviews during the fall and spring semesters. An on-campus recruiting schedule is maintained on e-Recruiting. All students seeking internships or full-time positions are invited to participate, however, students must be registered in e-Recruiting to view on-line information about participating organizations, to select employers to interview with and to sign up for interviews.

Will Student Employment & Career Services help me with my résumé?

Definitely!! Help is available for students writing their first résumé as well as for students revising an existing résumé. Keep in mind that we also have a large selection of résumé writing publications in our career library and at FLITE.

Where do I go to learn about jobs on-campus?

SE&CS also maintains an on-line posting site for positions on campus or in the local community. Did you know some of the community opportunities qualify for work study dollars? Check out the "Community Service" link. Areas that frequently hire students include Dining Services, Residential Life, FLITE (Library), Bookstore, various computer labs, Intramurals, Grounds and the Ice Arena, just to name a few!

Do you offer tests that will help me identify the career I should pursue?

Yes. SE&CS provides FOCUS, a self-guided web-based product, to all FSU students. The Educational and Career Counseling Center, STR 313, x 3057, offers the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator administered by an educational counselor who can interpret the assessment inventories, which may be useful in suggesting career themes to explore.

I am undecided about my major. Where can I get help?

FSU provides the Career Exploration Program, offered by the department of Developmental Programs & Curriculum, ASC 1037, x 2807, for students who are uncertain of their future program of study. While earning credits toward general education requirements, students become aware of the career development and decision-making process; explore personal values, interests, experiences and skills; identify educational and employment opportunities that match desired career objectives; and acquire skills to seek a job.

I really like my major, but I don’t know what kinds of jobs I can get with a degree in it. Can you help?

Check out FOCUS, or consider scheduling an appointment with a SE&CS staff member to explore different employment opportunities in your major.
