1. Uncertain about a career path? Ferris offers the
Career Exploration Program (CARE) just for you. Become aware of your
interests and career options through hands-on exploration, assessment and
decision making. (Developmental Programs and Curriculum – ASC 1048,

2. Want to investigate your career options and get
credit? Take CARE 102, a three-credit hour class that guides you
through the career decision-making process. As part of the class, you will
take the STRONG and MBTI assessments to assist you in choosing a career

3. If the CARE program or CARE 102 course are not
appropriate for you, explore or confirm your career choice by seeing an
Educational Counselor in STARR 313 or call 231.591.3057. Schedule an
appointment to take the STRONG and MBTI assessment inventories
and to have an Educational Counselor interpret the results.
4. Feeling unsure about your career path since your
initial career choice? Visit an Educational Counselor in the
college on campus that offers your program of choice.
5. Certain about your career choice? Use
FOCUS
Software (FLITE’s web site) to plan the steps in your career path by:
exploring further and learning more about occupations, identifying values,
skills, interests and attributes; and confirming that your program of study
choice meets your career goals.
6. Identify and develop your skills by
volunteering on or off campus and/or getting involved in
RSO’s

7. Don’t miss
Ferris’s job fairs
(October and February.) Use the job fairs to explore career opportunities,
find that summer job or internship, or land that career job when you are ready
to graduate.
8. Schedule an informational interview or
a job shadow experience with an employer’s
representative to get ideas about career opportunities in your field.
Follow-up with the contacts you made at the job fairs or through

9. Start building your resume right away by getting a job right here
on campus, or in the local community! Later, get the most out
of your Ferris education and all of your newly formed skills, by getting an
internship for credit or a summer job/internship for pay.
10. Use
e-Recruiting
to connect you to the world by
publishing your resume in the Resume Book (MS Word or RTF format). Take advantage of
walk-in Resume Review hours each day (Tuesday's 10 a.m.- Noon;
Wednesday's 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.) to get ideas on how to improve your

11. To view regular/off campus job openings, or sign up for on-campus
interview schedules use
e-Recruiting software.
12. Schedule a mock interview to sharpen you presentation skills,
check out self-help videos, or the book library to gain new ideas and information.

13. Turn to the SE&CS' staff for cover
letter/portfolio critiques, occupational guidance, job search counseling, and

14. Use our other web-based services to
research employers, calculate salaries, get SE&CS' handouts, find out about
other job fairs, link to other job search sites, and find many other career
resources.
15. Plan to attend the annual
Career Tactics Workshops
by your last
